Articles of Incorporation, Constitutions and Bylaws c. 1952-1965

Records that comprise this series are articles of incorporation for the Immanuel Association of Lutheran Deaconesses of Omaha, Inc., constitutions and bylaws for the Diaconate of the Augustana Evangelical Lutheran Church, and a proposed constitution for Immanuel, Inc., the successor organization to the Immanuel Deaconess Institute. The records date from approximately 1951-1965. Several of the constitutions and bylaws for the Augustana diaconate are undated, but are retained in this series because over time various portions of the constitution were revised. The constitution and accompanying bylaws address the organization's objectives, membership, governance, leadership, the garb, and provisions for the sisters' ownership of property. Revisions occurred in 1953, 1960, and 1961. This series also includes reference copies of the IDI's constitutions adopted in 1954 and 1961. The articles of incorporation are for the corporate entity created after the diaconate formally split from the institute. There are two copies of the articles, the first being the first draft of the articles for the Immanuel Deaconess Home of Omaha, Nebraska, Inc. The second copy is a revised articles of incorporation in which the name was changed and other provisions were either revised or reordered. There is a copy of the first draft of the bylaws, which was then heavily revised. The revision is also in this series, but it is undated. However, one could assume the bylaws were created at the same time or shortly thereafter the revised articles of incorporation. The copy of the proposed constitution for Immanuel, Inc., the successor to IDI, is in the series for reference purposes. There was no formal relationship between the diaconate and Immanuel, Inc., which was owned by the Nebraska Synod of the Lutheran Church in America.
